2016 KCBS International TOY Rules

  1. For the inaugural 2016 year, Two World Regions will be eligible for KCBS International TOY Championships: Canada and Europe.

  2. To be eligible for TOY points, the head cook of the team must be a member of KCBS in good standing, at the time the team is taking part in the qualifying contest.

  3. To register your team, the head cook must call the KCBS office directly or email the office at membership@kcbs.us.

  4. The team's head cook’s domicile determines his/her team's Region of eligibility.

  5. A team will gather points from any Sanctioned, Master KCBS contest that it cooks anywhere in the world. (including the American Royal but excluding the Jack Daniels International World Invitational Championship).

  6. International TOY points will be awarded on the basis of each team’s top 5 highest point contests cooked in the contest year.

  7. Qualifying dates for 2016 TOY points is: December 18, 2015 through December 11, 2016.

  8. To prevent a tie in the top 5 positions, the following procedures will be applied. Look to the 6th contest cooked by the tied teams. This contest score will be factored in with the other five contest scores. Should this not break the tie, continue with contest 7 and so on until the tie is broken. Should a team not have cooked more than 5 contests; a zero will be input for the tiebreaking contest.

  9. US teams and International head cooks living in the US, are not eligible to be considered for the International TOY.

  10. The team must be sure there is not another team registered with KCBS with a duplicate name.

  11. For each International region the top ten winners in each category and overall will receive recognition.

  12. These are the rules for 2016. As KCBS International expands so will the number of International TOY regions.

KCBS is proud to unveil the current 2016 International KCBS Team of the Year standings. These official results represent the best efforts by KCBS to combine all event entries and points with the correct competition teams. Since there are more than 4,000 teams competing system wide this year, there may be a slight discrepancy from time to time. If you notice such a discrepancy, please contact our office. In the meantime, look back often to see how the weekly competitions change the results!

International Team of the Year Points System

Every team at a contest will receive points, even the last place team. Additionally, every team participating in a contest will be awarded bonus points based on the number of teams at an event, up to a maximum of 35. There are no double and triple points, only the bonus points based on the number teams competing at each event. While teams will still be rewarded for doing well in large contests, this system helps to bridge the gap between the smaller and larger events, rewarding teams for their consistency on the competition circuit regardless of event size.

The following is a breakdown of the points awarded at each event. For example the third place overall finisher at a 27-team event. The team will receive 200 points plus 27 bonus points based on the number of teams competing, for a total of 227.

Official Team Bio/Team of Year Disclaimer*

Please remember the team names are provided by our members to KCBS. Each team listed has at least one KCBS membership tied to that team name. No team names outside of our membership base are listed below. If you are a member of KCBS and wish to add your team name to this list, you can use this Official KCBS Team Registry as the first place to start. Once you find your team name is not in the KCBS database, you can submit your name request to the KCBS office. KCBS will review your request and add your team name with your membership information into our system. Except for the member’s name and team name, the accuracy of the data is based on information provided by the member listed. Therefore, KCBS cannot guarantee all the information shown.

KCBS does not have the legal right to grant exclusive use of any name, trade name or trademark. KCBS however does ask its members to use an identifier for use by KCBS, in order that we do not have teams with the same name or confusing names, in our “Team of the Year” program. KCBS assumes no liability for duplicate named teams, and does not have the right to enforce any rights between teams with similar names.

You must register your Team AND Head Cook Number with KCBS to be eligible for KCBS TOY.

  • The head cook must be a member of KCBS in good standing and the membership must be current.

  • The head cook must indicate to the KCBS Office that he/she is the official head cook of the team. Please do this on your KCBS membership application or e-mail the KCBS office at: membership@kcbs.us

If you have any questions or concerns about your TOY points:

Best practice:

  • The head cook should check with the KCBS Rep at every contest to be sure his/her KCBS Membership/Pitmaster Number is correct. If an incorrect head cook number is used to identify the team, the team name will be incorrect on the KCBS website and TOY points will not go to the correct team.
