Great American BBQ Block Party

November 17, 2009
When we were in Sparks earlier this year, KCBS introduced a contest for one lucky winner to have a Block Party at their home hosted by Chris and myself. The winner would receive a year’s supply of our partners’ products, some KCBS swag and a Good-One Smoker Grill.

Chris and I were pleased to learn that the winner was Sam from Tulsa. Because the party was for Sam and 25 friends, he decided to move the party from his home to a house that his church owned to better accommodate guests. We were watching the weather on the drive to Tulsa and it was shaping up to be a nice day. We pulled up in front of the house and waited for Sam to arrive. We sure were a sight when we parked the Tour trailer on a residential street that only allowed parking on one side for traffic flow.

As we were setting things up, people from the neighborhood started stopping by.   By the time the food was cooked, there were 6-7 families all eager to enjoy the fellowship and hospitality of Sam. Since we were not sure what kind of a party to expect, we were pleasantly surprised that most in attendance were from Sam’s church. All the kids put on the Grills Gone Wild aprons and scampered in the front yard to play in the fallen leaves.

Before we left, Sam made sure to share his winnings with his friends.  He sent his friends home with Weber seasonings, Tabasco Chipotle Sauce and bottles of Tums. We loaded up the Good-One in James’ truck along with a case of Scott towels and bags of Kingsford to run everything over to Sam’s house.

It was a very nice party and we think everyone had a great time.  It was a nice way to finally end the 2009 Great American BBQ Tour. Now it’s time to start getting ready for 2010.

Until next year,
Mike & Chris Peters
