Lotta Bull BBQ takes center stage at Talladega
November 1, 2010
TALLADEGA, Ala. – Moments before NASCAR’s biggest names walked across the Sprint Stage at Talladega Super Speedway, two of the Kansas City BBQ Society’s best barbeque teams were front and center.
Lotta Bull BBQ’s Mike and Debbie Davis were announced as the Grand Champions at DegaQue Alabama BBQ Championship. Bill Deitz and Sean Hopkins of Sam’s Club presented Lotta Bull with a trophy and a check for $10,000 on the Sprint Stage at the start-finish line in the heart of Talladega Super Speedway.
“It was amazing to be able to present Mike and Debbie with this check in front of some of NASCAR’s biggest fans at one of the most legendary tracks,” Dietz said. “These are the superstars of barbeque.”
Mike Richter of Chix, Swine and Bovine BBQ was also on hand to accept his trophy after being named the Reserve Grand Champion.
“These teams work hard during each and every competition,” said Mike McCloud, president and CEO of MMA Creative, the official agency of KCBS. “They deserve the prestige and recognition of being on this national stage; it was great to be able to be a part of this experience.”
The Second Annual $50,000 DEGAQUE Alabama BBQ Championship was presented by Sam’s Club and sponsored by Tyson. Aside from the competition, Sam’s Club and KCBS’s Great American BBQ Tour provided thousands of NASCAR fans with grilled Tyson chicken wings and championship barbeque from Lotta Bull at the KCBS Stage.
Sweat’s BBQ scored a 180 in the Brisket category, taking home the top prize in brisket and a check for $2,000.
Other first place winners included Buttrub.com in pork, Fowl Butt BBQ in ribs and Munchee’s Smokehouse in chicken and sauce.
The Second Annual DEGAQUE was organized by Smoke on the Water and was sanctioned by KCBS. The competition coincided with Talladega’s Halloween race weekend and featured about 70 competitive barbeque teams. For complete results, click here.
