May 16, 2011
The first teams from Region 2 qualifiers in the Sam's Club National BBQ Tour have battled it out for the initial seven openings.

Scoring major bragging rights and KCBS Team of the Year points, Blazen BBQ took home Grand Champion and a check for $2,500. Smokin’ Triggers was named Reserve Grand Champion, earning $1,000.

The following teams earned a spot at the Regional Event in Fort Worth, Texas on July 15-16:

The next contest is the Regional Event in Conroe, Texas on May 20-21.

For those of you keeping track, you'll also notice that an 8th team has been added to the list: Oh Kay Cee's out of Sante Fe, N.M. Turns out that Oh Kay Cee was supposed to be competing in the first regional, but one day before the Las Vegas event, an error occurred in our calculation process when another team withdrew. So the next qualifying team was given the position that Oh Kay Cee was supposed to have by mistake.

To correct the error, KCBS and MMA Creative have extended an invitation to Oh Kay Cee to compete in the second regional event in Ft. Worth, Texas. They have accepted, and that means there will be 31 teams vying for the national spots at that contest.

We apologize for the error, and we hope everyone agrees with our decision to provide this make good for Oh Kay Cee. All other team qualifying processes will remain in place, and we are excited to see who comes out on top in Texas!

Good luck to all teams! Keep smokin’!

The Perfect Performance!
