RULES COMMITTEE REPORT - Dave Compton:
We had a very passionate and vocal Open Rules Meeting at the Banquet last month. What it boiled down to is really two issues, garnish and the parting rule.
I submit the Following motions to the Board:
Motion on Re-wording Rule # 12
There have been complaints that the wording in this Rule can be confusing if no attention is paid to punctuation or if it is read rapidly. Our suggestion is:
1) The first two sentences remain unchanged, and;
2) The third sentence read as follows: “Prohibited garnish include kale, endive, red tipped lettuce, lettuce cores or other vegetation.” And;
3) The last sentence remains the same.
Motion on Rule # 10
I move that the definition of PORK be changed as follows:
Pork: Pork is defined as Boston Butt, Picnic and/or Whole Shoulder, being one piece, weighing a minimum of five (5) pounds (bone in or bone out).
Motion on Rules Deadlines
I move that the practice of cutting off new Rules proposals in August be changed and the cut-off be extended to the December Board meeting. This still allows time for the new Rules to be sent to the printer and published before January first of the next year and allows the Rules Committee to keep working past August of each year.
