443 Miles to Nashville

June 9, 2008
Greetings everyone!!

Chris and I made it to Nashville this afternoon (Wednesday, June 4th) on the first day of our gypsy BBQ adventure.

Our GPS unit got quite the workout today when I chose to take the most direct route instead of the "quickest" and hit Illinois and Kentucky before making it to Tennessee. For those of you who are nervous of heights and bridges, you can relate to my trepidations going over two HUGE bridges during my short drive through Illinois going over first the Mississippi and then the Ohio rivers.  Can you say "white knuckle"?

We got a late start as we were loading the rental car and had to rethink just what we would need for the first two month's of the trip. I want to make sure that we have everything we will need... the car was not big enough. We are still taking quite a bit of luggage and will re-evaluate when we make it back through Springfield in August. One thing we will not leave behind is our new Wii. I got the WiiFit program to help us stay in shape or should I say "get" in shape after eating BBQ for the next five months.

We saw lots of BBQ joints on the road and look forward to trying some fantastic BBQ by some of the best BBQ teams at the KCBS contest this weekend and along the road. Before we left St Louis, we cornered Ernie & Linda Poland, Certified KCBS Judges in our room and showed turn in box pictures that we have turned in at past contests and have a little better idea of what the judges are looking for. It was just more verification that we need to take a Judging class to help our own competition team for the times we are able to compete.

We will be picking up the truck and trailer in the morning to set up at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville. It looks like we might break the rainy streak for the tour as the local news shows clear skies and ninety degree weather through the weekend! If you make it to the event, please stop by and say hello.

Hope to see you on the road!!

Mike & Chris Peters
