ABOUT KCBS
CMA Festival A Fun Stop
June 10, 2008 The country music stars weren't the only "hot" people at the event. With temperatures in the low to mid nineties during the four day event, EVERYBODY was hot! With our helpers, we went through a case of water a day. Our demo's went well and I even got a chance to listen to Troy Black with Southern Living do his demo which really helped. There were about 45 teams competing in the KBCS sanctioned event right by our booth location. The smell of BBQ was in the air which is always a good thing. Mike and Debbie Davis of Lotta Bull BBQ took the Grand Championship "Gold Record" home. The neatest cooker we saw was the Harley Hawgs unit which was a two-story cooker that had a tent and patio table on the upper level!
After a long and successful day, Chris and I got to see the Friday night concert at LP Field (where the Tennessee Titans play). We got to see Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and the only performance this year by Faith Hill. The special guest for the evening was Keith Urban who closed out the event.
When we made it back to the trailer around 11:30, we got to visit with a team loading in for the contest - Georgia Mountain Smokeworks - this was their first KCBS event. In visiting with them, they had competed in events with the name "Smells like Garbage BBQ" (which I kinda liked better).
We're heading to Tryon, N.C. tomorrow and have already checked out the hotel and yes it does have a pool!!! We gotta work on our "Farmer's" tans.
