We-Q-4-U takes home the bacon in Kennesaw

Bacon is perhaps one of the most versatile foods out there. Breakfast, lunch and dinner; sweet, savory or salty, you really can’t go wrong with this decadence. For the 2013 competition season, Wright® Brand Bacon has introduced an ancillary contest, Destination: Bacon Domination, to six KCBS events to give competitors the opportunity to show off their pork belly know-how. Each event promises to bring in dish after dish of fantastic bacon recipes, but at the end of the day, the judges will have to choose the one that tops them all. Congratulations to We-Q-4-U on their first place bacon call at the Pigs and Peaches Festival in Kennesaw, Ga.!

Wright® Brand Bacon’s Destination: Bacon Domination took over the Pigs and Peaches BBQ Festival in Kennesaw, Ga. in mid-August, which boasted an incredible display of talented BBQ teams from all over. But when it came down to the bacon category, We-Q-4-U stood apart with their winning homemade bacon cup recipe.

“[The recipe] consisted of a bacon ice cream we made onsite,” said Jimmy Groves, pitmaster for We-Q-4-U. “And, actually, donut holes.” The inspiration for this recipe came from one of the team’s four members.

We-Q-4-U is a well rounded-competition team who, in addition to their BBQ ventures, has several other wins to their record including chili, dessert, sauces and now, bacon. Because of the team’s Destination: Bacon Domination win, the team will now have the opportunity to go on to compete in the Bacon World Championship at the World Food Championships.

“We just appreciate the opportunity Wright is giving us to go out there and compete with some of the best teams,” said Groves.

As for bacon itself, Groves noted that the best way to eat this pork favorite is on the grill.

“The bacon we used in this contest was cooked on the pellet smoker, which has a grease system on it that takes all the grease to a pan outside of the grill,” said Groves. “Bacon without grease is awesome.”

A big congratulations to We-Q-4-U for their first place win!
