SMOKIN SCOTSMEN

DAVID BEUKER
In the middle of 2007, a descendent of the Scottish Munro clan, Walt Munroe and his wife Theresa formed a new competitive BBQ team. They chose the name “Smokin’ Scotsmen BBQ” in homage to Walt’s Scottish heritage and had a team logo designed wherein the icon characters were dressed in the tartan kilts of his clan. That first season, the Scotsmen competed in four contests from Michigan, Illinois and Tennessee, earning five calls.
In 2008, we have competed in six KCBS sanctioned contests and one un-sanctioned competition hosted by the Great Lakes Barbecue Association. We have received fifteen calls in the individual categories, a third place overall finish at a KCBS competition and took first a Grand Champion at the unsanctioned Great Lakes Barbecue Association contest. We are planning to compete in at least nine KCBS sanctioned competitions this year.
