Flatlander Barbecue was started after Derek spent several years judging competitions in the Northeast. Derek's wife, Meghan, brought the camping expertise that he was missing, and now the two are enjoying hitting the circuit. The team name plays off the word that Vermonters tend to call folks from outside of the Green Mountain state, as Meghan and Derek are originally from southern New England and will be Flatlanders to native Vermonters for years to come.

Biggest Wins: First contest - Cape Cod Championships on June 11 & 12, we got 2nd place ribs and 5th place chicken.

Second contest - 3rd place ribs at the Safeway BBQ Battle in Washington D.C. and 9th overall.
