99 PROBLEMS BUT A GRILL AIN'T ONE

Year Started: 2013
Members:
JOEL KOPYLEC

The team name is a misnomer, grills are definitely one of my problems but I love BBQ nonetheless and want to make the best damn food that I possibly can.

I love the idea of BBQ and believe it is the absolute greatest excuse to sit around and do much of nothing for an entire day. As much as I love the BBQ as a relaxing hobby, I finally have made the plunge into competition and am equally in love with the sometimes frantic, obsessive insanity that surrounds the turn ins.

I couldn't have completed our first comp without my bride-to-be and think we make a great team but I do owe her big time; I just hope she doesn't want to take up knitting or ballroom dancing anytime soon.

2014 will likely be slow from a comp perspective (will be back in Westport though) with a wedding and whatnot, but practicing the craft will make up a lot of my weekends with a focus on improving for future comps and eating good food.

Hometown: Wallingford
State: CT
Country: US

Most wins in a year: Goose Egg

Biggest Wins: None thus far: First competition was the Blues, Views and BBQ Festival in Westport, CT 8/31/2013 and we finished 10th overall in KCBS categories for a solid first start. Looking forward to more experience in 2014.

Sponsors: My checking account unfortunately... Anyone willing to sponsor me at this point, I have an incredible piece of property to sell you, sight unseen, in Tahiti for CHEAP!
