HARDWAY BARBECUEYear Started: 2008
Hardway Barbecue is a barbecue catering company and competition cooking team led by me, Grant Miller of Aurora, Missouri. Being born in Memphis, Tennessee I was bred with barbecue in my blood and have always been in search of the perfect 'cue. I decided to go on a quest to learn how to produce my own perfect barbecue about four years ago. In this process I decided to enter a barbecue competition that first year just to see what it was all about and was then fully addicted to barbecue smoke and the competition scene.
That first year included one competition; the second year, three competitions; ten in the third year; and twenty-one in the fourth. About 20 competitions are planned for year 5. Awards won include:

In case you're wondering... I adopted the team name Hardway Barbecue at about 3:00am one cold, snowy night when I was doing a practice cook and caught myself wishing I had one of those set-it-and-forget-it electric or gas cookers so I didn't have to go out in the weather to tend my fire. I then reminded myself that the only way to make true barbecue is to slow-smoke it over a hardwood fire and that I was still young enough to do it the hard way. And so, Hardway Barbecue became my team name right then.
You can find me cooking competition barbecue at events throughout the mid-west and mid-south regions 2-3 weekends per month or providing barbecue catering services and meat-by-the pound sales in southwest Missouri on the off weeks.
