The team formed in 2005 as "BBQ-4-U" to promote the internet forum of the same name that the members were a part of. The forum changed names to "BBQCentral" in 2006 and so did the team. In 2007, it was decided that the team should change its name one more time, and "Iron Pig BBQ" was born. The Iron Pig BBQ 2008 season started as a 2 man team in Salisbury, MD with a 7th place finish in Pork in a field of 84 teams. Other team members left during the year leaving head cook, Chris Finney. Going solo in Rocky Mount, NC, Iron Pig BBQ finished 6th overall, got 3 walks in the four categories just missing the 4th by one place.
Cooking style varies with the type of meat and sometimes contest location. But, usually it's an extremely bastardized Lexington style sauce, and meat smoked over hickory and cherry woods.
2009 is starting out to be a good year for Iron Pig BBQ with the addition of a trailer mounted Superior Smokers cooker replacing the 3 WSMs that were used in previous years. The trailer mounted cooker sure makes set up and tear down a lot quicker and easier. Anybody that has seen me repacking after a competition knows what I mean. (Think 3D jigsaw puzzle.)"
