I started barbecueing in 2001 as a backyard hobby and quickly embraced the lifestyle and pride that comes along with it. Ever since, I have spent an immense amount of time studying, traveling and tasting different regional barbecue traditions. I have not entered many contests, but would like to "ramp up" my participation as time allows.
I have started two separate teams for barbecue; both of which only I had a clue what to do. The first team, The Stray Dogs, had a lot of fun competing in two contests back to back at the Clute, Tx Great Mosquito Festival. This was not a KCBS sanctioned event, but we did place top ten in several categories. Since then, I have gone to medical school and currently work as a general surgery resident in Greenville, SC. In 2007, I started The Meat Doctors. Technically, I am the only person on the team so it should just be the meat doctor, but, there are always several other "doctors" available to join the fun!
We have competed in two contests so far. In Tryon, NC 2007 we didn't fare too well (too much partying), and in Union, SC 2008, we did much better but still had a lot of room for improvement.
