Year Started: 2004

We are a family team consisting of husband and wife, Ron and Nancy Montgomery, along with children Anna, Allison, Trent and Russell. After Ron judged BBQ contests for three years, Team Top Chick began competing in 2004 largely because of oldest daughter Anna's success in the 4-H chicken-que contests. Our first contest was Lawrenceburg, TN where we took first in chicken and pork. Later we would travel as far away as Denver to compete against a great field of teams, taking first in brisket and fourth overall. We got our first Grand Championship in Gallatin, TN. Needless to say we were hooked. We ended the year by taking reserve in Douglas, GA, and the girls were featured on the Food TV special "Grill Gargantuan". Because of the TV show, Anna is forever known as the little girl with the chicken hat. In 2005 we competed in 15 events taking 2 Reserve Grand Championships, several top tens and an award we are most proud of, 8th place in points for Pork team of the year. In 2006 and 2007 we only did a few events, still managing to get some good calls and solid finishes. We were back and serious for 2008 with a new Fast Eddie smoker. In doing seven KCBS events we finished no worse than 16th including a Reserve Grand Championship in Athens Al. We also won a local non-sanctioned event. We ended the year again in Douglas Ga at the Best of the Best Open taking 6th overall and placing all categories in the top ten. 2009 would be a banner year for our team , competing 15 times including the prestigious American Royal, winning a Grand in Gadsden, a Reserve in Florence, three first place rib trophies, many top ten category awards and finishing in the top ten overall 10 times. 2010 began with a bang as we took a Grand Championship in our first contest in Gainesville, GA. We would go on to win another Grand Championship later in Rome, GA making 2010 our first year to win two KCBS events. We competed in a record 17 events taking 2 first place pork awards, 1 first place brisket award, numerous top 5 and top 10 places and finishing in the top ten overall a majority of the time. We also finished 73rd out of 7053 teams that competed in 2010. We are proud to rank in the top 1% of competition BBQ teams in the nation. 2011 to 2014 we continued to compete on a reduced basis. However we won perhaps our biggest contest at the Hog Wild BBQ in Mobile, AL and were honored to compete in the World Food Championships in Las Vegas in 2013. We have appeared on TV several times; Food Network (Grill Gargantuan), A&E (World Food Championships) and travel channel (BBQ Crawl). We began catering in 2012 and launched Anna's Famous Sauce to retail stores in 2016. We are proud members of the KCBS and the NBBQA .

Most wins in a year: Two Grand Championships!

Biggest Wins: We have won Grand Champion in Gallatin Tn and Gadsden Al., Gainesville Ga. Rome Ga. and Mobile Al. Reserve Grand Champion in Douglas Ga, Decatur Al, Aberdean Ms. Athens Al. and Florence Al. We placed 14th out of 124 teams in the prestigious American Royal Invitational in Kansas City. We finished 4th out of 107 outstanding teams at Degaque held at Talladega Motor Speedway which had a total of $50000 in total prise money. We also took 5th in chicken out of 473 teams in the American Royal open. We participated in the World Food Championships in Las Vegas in 2013.
