Team Bio:
The Smokehouse Mafia competition barbeque team cooked in its first KCBS contest in June 2010, in Tryon NC. Our main goal for that weekend was to turn in all four meats on time, which we did accomplish. At the awards ceremony we were pleasantly surprised to get called to the stage for 5th place chicken. We were hooked after that. Like a lot of other teams The Smokehouse Mafia got started by helping another team compete in their first BBQ contest. After two contest helping, we decided we needed to do it our way, and our way is what we've been doing ever since. We found BBQ was a great way to be competive without having to run up and down a court, or get tackled by someone. We have been fortunate to have checked most of the boxes on the standard BBQ bucket list. We have heard our name called last several times. We have competed in the American Royal Open and Invitational. The icing on the cake was being invited to compete at the Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue. We have begun rating our successes not by trophies or calls, but by the number of good times we have had. We have been truly blessed by BBQ! We have met some of the nicest people in the world, and are lucky to call them friends.
