March 5, 2018

We value your membership and respect the privacy of your information, which is why, as a precautionary measure, we are writing to let you know about a cyber security incident that affected a small portion of our membership.

On Monday February 26, 2018 an email account belonging to Kansas City Barbeque Society was compromised by a third party, and used to send an infected file to member email addresses. 161 email accounts were affected and may have a risk of infection.

We've have emailed potentially affected member directly with remediation steps and procedures.

Please keep an eye out for communication from Notifications@KCBS.US.  Again, we are only directly notifying those members affected.

Over the course of this week, our new Cyber Security Partner executed the following Cyber Security Incident Response Plan:

1.       Identify and diagnose the vector used and the extent of the breach

2.       Quarantine all corporate accounts & systems

3.       Remediate all known intrusions

4.       Re-Secure corporate environment

5.       Identify affected parties

6.       Notify affected parties

We take cyber security seriously and are deeply sorry for any  inconvenience  that this  may have caused our members and partners. We are implementing new services, policies, and infrastructure to better prevent issues like this in the future.
