Great American Cookout - Atlanta Speedway

2012 was the last time the Great American Cookout Tour was in Atlanta at the speedway. This year we attended the Summit Racing Equipment Atlanta Motorama at the Speedway where all proceeds from the BBQ event went directly to the Atlanta Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, which provides funding for children's causes throughout Metro Atlanta! It was a special feeling driving under the track to the infield area for set-up. Seeing the banked walls of the racetrack and the thousands of seats was awesome! Then looking over and watching Bigfoot drive by with the 120” high tires and Cousin Eddie’s RV from Christmas Vacation took things over the top. I am sure about every make and model of car was on display and you could hear burnouts and engines revving throughout the weekend! You couldn’t smell the burning rubber from our area but you sure could smell the BBQ smoke! The lids were up on the Green Mountain Grills, Bull Grill, Monolith and Igloo Coolers just like the car hoods, but I was showing off the GrillGrates and plenty of room to keep things nice and cool! The event had a people's choice which drew folks away from the cars for some championship BBQ! We had great crowds and were able to talk a lot about all things BBQ and Grilling! I even conceded my microphone so Christine could demonstrate the ease of breaking down a Compart Duroc Pork loin into multiple meals before serving out samples which had been marinated with the GrillMate Brown Sugar Bourbon  recipe!

One of the most popular items which makes sense as we were dealing with car folks was the Igloo Liddup Trailmate 70 qt cooler on wheels with the built in LED lights! 

It was great to see some of our BBQ friends from the South that we don’t get to see as often. Since this was a Saturday/Sunday event, there were a number of teams that loaded in after the Calhoun contest on Saturday late afternoon. Since Christine was such a natural on the microphone, I had time to sit down with some of the Speedway executives and talk dessert. Well, actually judge dessert… which was fantastic and something I rarely do. We get to hang around Atlanta for the week doing some truck maintenance and have a retail stop lined up for Reynolds before our next event at Atlantic Station, the Atlanta BBQ Festival!
