Volunteers Needed KCBS Extreme Makeover BBQ Throwdown

July 20, 2011

The Kansas City Barbeque Society is proud to join forces with and support the popular TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as it pulls into East Central Kansas to build a new home for a worthy family.

As part of the home building/renovation process, Extreme Makeover typically hosts a Community Fund Raising Event, which helps the charitable family with miscellaneous expenses. However, this version will be quite unique. That's because KCBS will be adding an authentic Kansas City flavor to the event by preparing a plate of competition BBQ for the expected crowd of 2,000.

But that's not all. In fact, KCBS has agreed to support Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Kansas build with an Extreme Makeover BBQ Throwdown! Six of the Top 10 KCBS teams in America will make the journey into KC for a special competition treat that will be judged by six members of the EMHE cast and crew. The Throwdown will occur on stage in front of the crowd right after they have been sworn in as Honorary KCBS Certified Judges.

The fundraiser will take place on Aug. 4, a couple days before the home "reveal." The location has not been identified yet, but the event will feature live music, a raffle and a silent auction, with all proceeds will benefit the local family and build fund. The cost of the tickets is $10 and $5 for kids under 12.

How can you help? Just as the home can't be completed without the help of hundreds of volunteers and builders, this BBQ fundraiser cannot be carried out successfully without the help and support of our KCBS family. That's why we are currently looking for volunteers to help serve the meal, promote KCBS and ensure the event goes smoothly. We are also seeking items for a silent auction to be held during the event.

Your generous donations will not only help KCBS and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition carry off a successful event, but will help provide much needed financial assistance to a very deserving family in the East Central Kansas area.

The event will take place on Aug. 4 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in East Central Kansas. Further details on the exact location will be released closer to the event and can be found at http://www.joinextreme.com/kansas. The website also provides a detailed list of materials and volunteer needs for the actual build.

If you are able to help KCBS with this fantastic project, please contact Kelly at the KCBS office (800-963-5227) for more information. (Please note that there are a limited number of volunteer spaces available.)

To make a donation of meat or products needed for the BBQ Throwdown or dinner, please contact the KCBS office directly. To make donations to or to volunteer for the build, please visit http://www.joinextreme.com/kansas.

We believe it is going to be an Extremely Good Time!
